Graduated from the University of Virginia in 1962 with a B.A. in psychology. Graduated from The Law School of The University of Virginia in 1965 with a J.D.
On active duty with the United States Navy from 1965 to 1968; retired from the JAG Corps of the United States Naval Reserve in 1985 with the rank of Captain. Currently counsel to the Virginia Chapter of Mayflower Descendants; formerly President of the Tidewater Chapter of St. Jude's Children’s Hospital; former coach in Pony League baseball.
Member of the Judicial Selection Committee of the Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association; admitted to practice in all Virginia state courts; admitted to practice in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia; admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia; admitted to practice before the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals; admitted to practice before the United States Court of Military Appeals; admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.
